Elmer A. Bertram
Apr 10, 2018Bertram, 93, of Chisholm, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm.He was born April 11, 1924, to Adolf and Della (Pauley) Bertram in Blackberry Township near Grand Rapids. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School, attended community college and also St. Thomas. Elmer proudly served his country for nearly four years in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Later, he and his wife owned and Operated Bert’s Store on Highway 5 north of Chisholm for over 30 years. He also worked in the CCC Camp S-53 at Side Lake and was a fire warden in the area for some time. Elmer was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Hibbing. His pastimes included duck hunting, fishing, but most of all, his passion was deer hunting.He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Bertram of Chisholm; children: Edward (Luisa) Bertram of Sturgeon, Minn., Karen (Bradley LaBlanc) Stalker of Hoyt Lakes and Diane (Robert) Smith of Side Lake; brother, Donald Bertram of Hibbing; sister, Shirley (Mike) Vlatkovich of Hibbing; six grandchildren: Shawn Bertram of St. Louis Park, Minn., Derek Bertram, who is overseas, Cody Bertram of Side Lake, Lisa M. Rudstrom of Chisholm, Nathan Smith of Hibbing and Jeremy (Elizabeth) Smith of Side Lake; two great-grandchildren, Odin Rudstrom and Evelyn Smith; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Geraldine Castagneri.Funeral: Services for Elmer will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Andrew Petter will officiate.Visitation: Will be held for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.Burial: Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.Arrangements are by Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing.
